On 19-20 June the EBU Strategic Programme (SP) on Quality Control (QC) will be meeting at the RAI production centre in Turin to exchange experiences on implementing file-based QC in broadcast facilities. The first day of the meeting will be in the form of a mini-seminar, featuring RAI’s approach to QC in production and for digitising its vast (Betacam-based) archive, annotation tools, a tour of the robotics/server area, results from the PrestoPrime project on long-term preservation, and a demo of some of the audiovisual & MXF software tools used. The second day is a regular QC meeting. The meeting is open to all QC group participants (register here before 6 June 2012).

Shared test material
According to coordinator Frans de Jong (EBU), the June event is a good example of how EBU group work allows for efficient information sharing between broadcasters and industry partners, but it is not the only one. He said: “Another example is the QC test material participants have been sharing for a few months now, and which enables both broadcasters and product implementers to test their software with a set of over 100 sequences with known artefacts.” These ‘files with a spot’ are available to active QC group participants on a ‘give to get’ basis. The SP on QC intends to provide further assistance by, among others, publishing a list of QC requirements this summer, holding QC vendor visits at IBC 2012 and organising a dedicated EBU QC Workshop on 7-8 November in Geneva.
