The EBU's annual Network Technology Seminar will take place in Geneva next month. More than 60 people have signed up to attend the event described as The Media & IT Rendezvous. Six sessions across two days will deal with topics such as Production and Studios, Contribution and B2B, Open Internet and Consumer Devices in Broadcast, Media Storage, Security, and Emerging and Future Technologies.
An added attraction for delegates is a set of tutorials offered at the end of day one of the seminar, giving an opportunity to explore specific topics in greater detail. The final line-up of tutorials has now been confirmed as follows:
| Topic | Tutor |
| Error protection methods for audio and video over IP | Andy Raynor (Nevion) |
| Using Mobile Apps for broadcast applications | Colin Muir (BBC) |
| Network/Storage measurements | David Butler (BBC) |
As an alternative for those who are not interested in attending one of the tutorials, the EBU's Dr. Hans Hoffmann will moderate an open discussion around the issue of how Media and IT will co-exist in broadcast organizations in future. This will ask questions such as who should have "ownership" of the IT infrastructure used for carrying media in an organization (and the related expertise)? What is the profile of a media networks expert? Will the dream of media production on IT commodities come true and, if so, what is needed to make it happen?
The complete programme for NTS 2012 is available from the event page. Delegates are encouraged to register as soon as possible to ensure the availability of hotel accommodation.
NTS 2012 is organized in collaboration with SMPTE, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.
