Technical Review rounds off the year

Today’s publication of an article dealing with some of the thorny issues related to interference and regulation in the area of spectrum management, by Mike Cronk of Marquis LLP, completes another year of the EBU Technical Review. The “Tech Review”, which has been around in one form or another since 1950 and has featured many hundreds of articles, continues to explore the latest developments in media technology across a wide spectrum of topics. During 2011 a total of fourteen articles were published, covering subjects as diverse as adaptive streaming, 3D-TV production standards, semantic web technologies and solid state storage.

The issue of spectrum management, particularly important ahead of next month’s WRC-12 conference at the ITU in Geneva, was the subject of no less than four different articles through the year. Articles such as EBU TECHNICAL’s Elena Puigrefagut’s November paper, “Broadcasters define their positions for WRC-12”, and “Strategic considerations on the future of terrestrial broadcasting” by Roland Beutler (SWR), published in April, represent a valuable resource for EBU members as they engage in dialogue with the relevant administrations in their respective countries.
