Pan-European digital radio may take shape in Geneva

Already more than 90 people have registered for the 17th February Digital Radio Summit. Representatives from broadcasters, industry, operators and regulators are all coming to the unique event, which has the potential to bring the different digital radio platforms closer than ever before.

Hear and question

The Radio Summit offers participants to hear and question in the same event the four dominant organisations working on digital radio development in Europe or elsewhere:

1. WorldDMB, promoting and developing the DAB family of standards (DAB/DAB+/T-DMB)
2. The DRM consortium, promoting DRM30 and DRM+
3. IMDA, working on the standardisation of Internet radio devices
4. RadioDNS, offering an efficient seamless solution for bridging radio in broadcast and IP worlds.

The event will start with broadcasters and other experts presenting current strategies for future radio delivery and their views on content and audience evolution. They will provide real-world figures on and experience from existing digital radio developments. In the following section, the broadcasters’ needs are then mapped to the different delivery platforms. Several manufacturers will present their challenges for integrating technology in receivers and show what could be the next generation receiver.

Unique and efficient

Gathering all these people is possible because most of them will already attend the individual technical meetings of their respective organisations which all happen in the same week. This "radio week" is leaving space for discussion and common meetings to agree on alignment between the platforms. For non-members, it is an occasion to meet the organisations and possibly attend their meetings (subject to prior authorisation from the organisation concerned).
