Today EBU TECHNICAL opened its annual two day Networks Technology Seminar. This year's seminar has as subtitle: "Towards reliable IP networks for broadcast applications". For the first time the EBU Networks event is co-organised with the Video Services Forum (VSF).

 

 

Video Services Forum

 

The VSF is an international association of service providers, users and manufacturers dedicated to interoperability, quality metrics and education for video networking technologies.

 

Two chairmen: Rhys Lewis (EBU NMC) and Brad Gilmer (VSF).

 

Olympics over IP

 

The seminar kicked off with four use case presentations on:

 

- The use of Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)

- BBC's outlook on covering the Olympics 2008-2012 using IP networks

- A file-based news exchange project from EBU Eurovision

- HDTV over IP Networks by Swedish SVT

 

In the afternoon sessions on measurements in IP networks and quality of experience will follow. The last session of the first day is dedicated to effective network management with presentations from the VRT ("Where are my files"), Level 3 and Dimetis.
