Five 101 tutorials on Production Technology

The EBU is adding five tutorials on key topics to the Production Technology Seminar 2011. These will cover: Loudness, HD Cameras & Lenses, 3D Stereoscopy, SOA and the Semantic Web. The tutorials allow seminar particiapants to get up to speed in a most efficient way.

Diversity & depth

Programme coordinator Hans Hoffmann (EBU) explains the background of this new set up: "We have a renowned seminar which provides a diverse update on the technological developments in the broadcast industry. But we have noticed seminar participants sometimes are so new to the fundamentals that they could use a quick introduction. That's why for the 2011 edition we have asked five industry experts to give dedicated trainings in focused sessions of slightly over an hour each. This set up will also provide more intimacy for participants and  interaction is easier."

Use cases

Throughout the main programme there is emphasis on sharing practical use cases. Hans notes: "We want to make maximum use of the experiences EBU Members have gathered in applying new technology. All broadcasters are going through similar changes: the paces and context differ, but there is a lot to gain if you hear from colleagues who have walked a similar path already."

Future outlook

The Seminar is not limited to today's key issues and hot topics: it also looks at the future. And the EBU's view is not limited to Europe but worldwide as reflected, for example, by the participation of the Japanese EBU Member NHK, which is sending Dr Shishikui to update the audience on the roll-out of Super High Vision.
