The EBU General Assembly brings together EBU Members’ most senior managers. Those who come one day early this year, on 30 November 2011, will take part in a Technology Strategy Workshop. The event is intended to give them a better and understandable overall picture of the future they face, and to help them in their dialogue with administrations and technical colleagues. The event will be particularly slanted towards the interests of smaller EBU Members.
Producing Programmes
The production topics on the agenda include the lessons that were learned from those who have moved to more computerized programme making, and the relevance of new broadcasting tools such as 3DTV and Ultra High Definition Television. In addition, Members will be invited to look toward a future world where ‘tri-media’ production is normal.
Delivering Programmes
On the side of delivering to the home, the discussion will pick up why it is important to watch if we have enough spectrum for our needs. Radio is not neglected, and the new tools for digital radio will be on the table. For those brave enough, switching off FM radio will be considered, and finally the new world of hybrid broadcasting and tablets.
The Workshop should provide a useful picture of the future broadcast landscape for Members' decision-makers. The programme of this workshop can be viewed here.
