The EBU HIPS Codec group is very image conscious. So much so that it has convened in one of NRK’s Oslo studios (where it snowed today, incidentally) to create a set of High Definition video test sequences with which to tax the latest crop of production codecs that will be coming soon to a TV studio near you.
Very high quality 1080p/50
Sony has very kindly lent its single chip F35 camera, which has been equipped with lens royalty – prime focus Zeiss lenses – in order to create the highest possible quality 1080p/50 sequences that are being recorded uncompressed onto a DVS server.
NRK is very generously not only providing the studio facilities, but has turned out their crack team of experts, including Helge Semb, Director of Photography, set designer Kjetil Simonsen and Per Boehler, chairman of the EC-V community. The RAI has sent its ’server meister’ Daniele Airola to tame the DVS, and the EBU’s Roger Miles completes the team'.
The test sequences will be packaged over the next few days for distribution to manufacturers who will then pass the sequences through their codecs for subsequent subjective assessment. For more information about the HIPS Strategic Programme, contact Dr Hans Hoffmann .
