Over the next two days EBU Members and representatives from AVID, GVG/Thomson, Panasonic and Sony are meeting to discuss a new EBU Technical project on the Harmonisation and Interoperability for HDTV Production Standards (P/HIPS).
EBU Technical Project kicks-off
Initial meetings between EBU Technical projects and manufactures have indicated common grounds for cooperation, and the set up of this new project will provide a neutral platform for discussion on important interoperability and next generation HDTV technologies.
The project will concentrate on four areas of technology that are of immediate importance:
1. Interoperability with the Material Exchange Format (MXF)
2. Emerging studio compression formats in particular suitable to support the next generation
HDTV production format "1080p/50"
3. Metadata generated at the creation point ("Camera Metadata") and ingested in the workflow
4. 3G-SDI and to enhance interoperability for HDTV production infrastructures
Each of these areas will be addressed in individual subgroups, chaired by an EBU Member and managed by an EBU Technical engineer. The overall project is chaired by Christoph Nufer from the IRT in Munich.
Further information on the project can be obtained from Dr. Hans Hoffmann, Program Manager EBU Technical.
