With the increasing number of broadcasters switching to Loudness measurement and normalisation, comes an increased need for education on this important audio topic. For the German-speaking broadcast community, the ARD/ZDF Media Academy and the IRT organised a one-day Loudness Workshop end of January. The participation of more than 100 broadcast audio professionals underlined the huge interest that the Loudness work is receiving. The workshop started with a background on the development of the EBU Loudness Recommendation EBU R 128 , and soon after went into practical detail, including scenarios on how to implement EBU R 128 measurement and normalisation in existing facilities. A live connection to an IRT audio studio showed how loudness control works in a production environment.

The day before media professionals gathered at Technicolor facilities in The Netherlands to listen to Eelco Grimm, Richard van Everdingen and Tin Jonker (all active EBU PLOUD participants) for an update on the implementation of EBU R 128 in The Netherlands. Technicolor is responsible for the play-out process of the Dutch national public broadcasters.
