So you thought your programme wa ready? Think again. Are you really sure you selected the right MPEG profile? Are there no RIP errors in the MXF? The audio is not too loud? No flashes that could trigger a PSE attack? No subliminal messages from the sponsor? Many things can go wrong between the creation of a programme and the moment it is played out to air. Often it doesn't, but sometimes it will. Unless... your Quality Control (QC) workflow detects the problem in time. A similar case can be made for the need for QC in (usually very big) archive migration projects, that you really don't want to redo - if that is even possible at all.

The challenges of QC have grown with the increase in the amount of content, the choice of (technical) formats, the rise in the number of outlets and the move to file-based production facilities. What used to be a simple, human-eyes and waveform only job, is moving to a (semi-)automatic software-aided workflow that verifies content at strategic points throughout its lifetime.
QC Workshop 7-8 Nov 2012
On 7 and 8 November 2012 the EBU will hold a QC Workshop to discuss the state-of-the-art of media QC from the business, creative, and technical angles. More than ten QC product providers will demo their implementations, shown around an AS-11 workflow (the process used by the UK Digital Production Partnership).
