The second General Assembly of the HbbTV consortium was held at the headquarters of the EBU in Geneva today. Around 30 delegates attended the meeting, which included the first elections for the Steering Group of HbbTV. The Assembly elected four new representatives to the Steering Group.
Growing success
The HbbTV consortium gathers together representatives from all sectors of the industry interested in promoting hybrid television using open standards - its first specification was published in June 2010. It now boasts some 60 members. Today's General Assembly considered the budget for the forthcoming year and updates on the specification development and proposed testing regime.
The agenda included reports on the successful launches of HbbTV services in France, Germany, Spain, Austria and the Netherlands. These hybrid television services, accessible via the red button on the viewer’s remote control, grant access to catch-up TV, electronic programme guides, interactive games and other content associated with the programme being watched. The EBU BroadThinking seminar, also taking place this week in Geneva, includes live demonstrations of HbbTV services.
