EBU Project Group N/ACIP is currently holding its second plugtest workshop, hosted by the IRT in Munich. During four days, developers from 11 different manufacturers are testing the interoperability of their equipment according to EBU TECH3326 specification.
End of ISDN
The N/ACIP Group was created to encourage interoperability of audio contribution equipment using the IP protocol for communication. With the end of ISDN in sight, this is a crucial topic for many radio broadcasters. Migration from ISDN to IP has already started in some countries.
Intensive testing
During the intensive testing, every manufacturer sets up a session with each of the other manufacturers, one after the other. EBU Members act as referees and record traces of the communication for analysis and trouble shooting. Many audio coding algorithms are tested, such as MPEG AAC, Layer II, linear audio, G.711 and G.722. The idea is also to ensure interoperability with Voice Over IP equipment. The plugfest this year uses a SIP proxy, acting as a relay for presence and call forwarding.
