As broadband distribution has become more and more important for broadcasters, so the EBU's annual BroadThinking seminar has grown in stature over the last few years. This year's edition is set to cover more topics than ever before and a full house is expected for the two days of presentations, use cases, technology updates and demonstrations. Early Bird discounts are available to those who register before midnight on Friday 28 February.
There has been considerable progress in the broadband delivery chain, with understanding of adaptive streaming techniques and content delivery networks (CDNs) improving all the time. Many broadcasters are already making extensive use of CDNs to deal with growing but unpredictable streaming demands, and MPEG-DASH is likely to become the streaming technology of choice. There will be updates on these general trends at BroadThinking 2014, but also a deeper look at many related topics.

Speaking at EBU BroadThinking 2014: Akihiro Tsuchiya (Streamhub), Dale Herigstad (SeeSpace) and Adolf Proidl (XroadMedia).
It's not just the delivery of content that is changing; the growth of broadband has also brought new possibilities to the end devices and how the users interact with them. Sessions on the first day of BroadThinking will look at three areas related to media platforms: user interfaces, personalization and connected screens. Speakers will include repesentatives of Sony, Cisco, Opera and SeeSpace, as well as broadcasters BBC and RTS (Switzerland).
Day two of the event will look at some of the delivery trends mentioned above, wtih presentations on new CDN technologies, network measurements and key specifications such as HbbTV and HEVC. The role of the Cloud will also be on the agenda, in particular its potential for use in a publication workflow. Speakers on the second day will include representatives of Akamai, Qualcomm, Orange Labs and Cedexis.
