EBU Members from NRK, SRG, YLE, RTVE, IRT (ARD/ZDF), RAI, BBC and SVT are participating in the most crucial meeting of the EBU’s Technical Strategic Programme on interoperability for file-based HDTV production. This meeting is dedicated to a detailed investigation (subjective expert viewing) of a new generation of high quality HDTV studio codecs provided by AVID, Panasonic and Sony.

The investigations concern not only established HDTV formats such as 1080i/25 and 720p/50 but also the next generation HDTV format called 1080p/50. The meeting is being held at the Institute für Rundfunktechnik in Munich for three days, each day dedicated to one manufactures HDTV codec. Results of the work will be of great interest to EBU Members when planning for their HDTV production infrastructures.
