The December 2025 issue of tech-i magazine looks at the EBU Dynamic Media Facility through a business lens. One of the project's leaders, Willem Vermost, explains that the project isn’t just a technical overhaul but a strategic shift in how broadcasters build and finance their operations. By moving from fixed hardware to flexible, software-defined, cloud-ready workflows, DMF enables scalable, cost-aligned production, reduces vendor lock-in, and supports more resilient, collaborative, and future-proof media infrastructures. (See page 9.)
In his editorial on page 3, Antonio Arcidiacono argues that the rise of AI demands a new “renaissance engineer,” a multidisciplinary innovator who blends classical engineering foundations with creativity, ethical awareness, and mastery of advanced AI-driven tools to lead the next era of technological progress.
"The renaissance engineer is thus not only a technical innovator but also a catalyser for human progress, championing the democratization of knowledge and lowering barriers to participation in the engineering process. They will be the ones to create solutions for global challenges – from climate change mitigation and renewable energy to healthcare and education."
