It provides a brief primer on the technology of AM receivers and gives an overview of the subject of interference to those without specialised knowledge of AM radio systems. Much more detailed treatments to be found in various texts on the subject are referenced in this report.

The three main types of interference are described and their impact is illustrated through some example scenarios that show how an elementary AM radio circuit would react. In conclusion, steps that can mitigate the situation are suggested.

Key words: Amplitude Modulation, Modulation Depth, Noise, Interference, Masking Effect.
