The CEPT group ECC/TG4 which paved the way to harmonized European decisions related to the use of the digital dividend has completed its work after three years and one month of activity. Since it started work in January 2007, the group has held 15 meetings and produced 10 reports in responses to two mandates from the European Commission. Its most important result has undoubtedly been the identification of the upper part of UHF band V as a possible harmonized band for the digital dividend in Europe which also influenced the WRC07 decision. The other important decision to use the reverse duplex in the digital dividend spectrum was also based on the outcome of this group.
Protection of DVB-T reception from interference
The group's last output report was produced during its meeting in Cork (8-10 February 2010). It details the technical parameters (protection ratios and other related parameters) required to ensure the protection of DVB-T reception from interference potentially caused by LTE (Long Term Evolution, called also Mobile 4G system) if the latter uses the digital dividend spectrum.
EBU Members' contributions were significant during the group's life span
EBU TECHNICAL as well as several EBU Members (TDF, IRT, SWR, plus Media Broadcast and Teracom) participated in the work of ECC/TG4 during its lifetime and significantly contributed to both the discussions and the reports.
The group will formally wind up its activities at a 2-day meeting in June. The complete set of documents produced by CEPT group ECC/TG4 can be obtained from the ECO website www.ero.dk.
