Special EBU Workshop to address production problems

To identify the most urgent issues to address in the production domain, the newly created EBU Expert Community on Integrated Production (ECI) is organising a special, free workshop on 31st August, at the IRT in Munich (Germany).

Top problems first

The ECI is collecting problems and projects from EBU Members and other industry organisations. ECI chairman Reinhard Knör (IRT) explained: "We want to make sure we focus on the most important topics first. There are many issues in file-based media-production deserving attention - ranging from problems with converting between MXF and Quicktime, to integration issues with MAM and NLE systems. Also file-based quality control is frequently mentioned by our Members. But broadcasters' resources are limited and we have to spend them wisely. That is why we are holding this workshop, to collect the current top list of issues."

Robust architecture
ECI's vice-chair, Giorgio Dimino (RAI), underlined the importance of working on a robust production architecture: "The blueprint of our facilities deserves special attention. The file-based paradigm is being extended with a services-based component and new tools for collaborative working are being added (e.g. iPads, browser-based collaborative remote production, etc.). We need to make sure these developments are in line with the practical needs and that both positive and less-positive experiences are shared between users. That also is part of our community."
