The EBU's Beyond HD project group, chaired by Massimo Visca of RAI, is undertaking the creation of UHDTV video test sequences in the 4K format at 50 frames per second. This huge undertaking is taking place at the RAI Production Centre in Turin.

The project is supported by serveral EBU Members, including the RAI Research Centre, also located in Turin. Several industry partners are involved, including Sony, DVS, Astro Design, TV Logic, CW Sonderoptic and TPC.

Throughout this week, various different genres of 4K test sequence will be created to reflect typical content. This will allow EBU Members to fully test the immersive 4K format, performing scientific assessments of, for example, new video codecs. The ultimate aim of the Beyond HD group's work is to enhance EBU Members' understanding of the applicability of the 4K TV format for broadcasting in the long term.
