Radio showcase at EBU Production Technology Seminar

It cannot be denied that audio and radio aspects often get less attention than video related topics. There are various reasons for this, but the EBU tries actively go keep a sound balance between the two domains, also at its annual high-profile Production Technology Seminar.

Audio afternoon

This year the Seminar actually will start off with audio, in the form of a 101 on Loudness as one of the five tutorials on the morning of Tuesday 1st February. The day after a complete afternoon will be devoted to audio topics. Moderated by audio expert Andrew Mason (BBC), this session will 'look at' Loudness, Loudness metering, and objective studies of 5.1 upmix-systems. It will also cover audio for 3D, including the use of a High Order Ambisonics Microphone Array to create virtual 3D mics.

Low-cost radio

The Seminar organisers have invited radio engineers Mathias Coinchon and Stan Roehrich (EBU) to show the low-cost radio production and transmission platform that was demonstrated at the IBC last year. Using open source software and off-the-shelf radio components, this showcase system underlines how cost-efficient radio production and emission can be.
