Quality will drive the future success of public service broadcasters in the digital era, the ABU (Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union) Digital Broadcasting Symposium in Kuala Lumpur was told today.
Audience control

To deliver this quality of experience to the end user, broadcasters need to adapt their way of thinking.", he said. "They should offer harmonised, efficient and effective solutions and standards, and adapt their technical framework and media paradigm." Other speakers at the event emphasized the need for the broadcasting industry to continue on the digital path, despite the economic donwturn. It was also noted there is no turning back [to analogue] in any case.
Radio and HDTV
The EBU also promoted and explained the need for a harmonised digital radio situation. A presentation on the digital radio profiles was well appreciated. In the discussion afterwards it was raised that further cooperation between DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale) and WorlDMB would be useful for the success of a global digital radio solution. EBU engineer Adi Kouadio created much attention with a presentation on 'the trends and implementations of HDTV in Europe'.
The audience was informed on various EBU activities and recommendations in this area. The ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium 2009 ends on 13 March. For more information on the ABU and the symposium, please contact the ABU.
