Association with piracy
As he says, "In the past P2P protocol has been tainted by its association with copyright piracy. Many detractors still associate P2P with illegal file sharing. | |
It is now high time to remove its bad name and consider P2P a legal mechanism for transport and distribution of legal TV/video content. EBU TECHNICAL is actively involved in the EC funded project “P2P-Next” that is developing an “intelligent”, network-topology aware distribution mechanism. It is also very active in the DVB project, which is instrumental in standardising a P2P client plug-in to be embedded in consumer TV devices (STBs, TV sets, etc).
| Stand-alone P2P devices Whilst, for the moment, you are still most likely to encounter P2P streaming radio and television services through the use of a software client running on a personal computer, the time will soon come when stand-alone streaming radios, smart-phones and other internet enabled devices are P2P capable. Franc is firmly convinced that if all barriers are overcome, P2P may become a dominant internet media delivery mechanism in forthcoming years. |
The PRIX EUROPA is awarded each year to the best European television, radio and emerging media productions with the aim of publicising them throughout Europe and supporting their distribution and use. The P2P Workshop was chaired by Andrea Borgnino, New radio Project Manager at the EBU.
