DVB veteran Peter MacAvock and EBU senior engineer Hans Hoffmann have taken up their positions as the new EBU TECHNICAL Program Managers. The duo has an outstanding track-record in the broadcast industry and a profound insight in its technical developments.
| Two motivated professionals
Peter has been head of the DVB Project Office for the past seven years and describes the change of job as a ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’. He said: “Although the shift in office is small, as EBU TECHNICAL resides on the same floor as the DVB team, the change in responsibilities will be much larger. I have always admired what the EBU technical people are working on and I jumped at the opportunity to get more intimately involved.”
For Hans the rapid changes in production and distribution technologies he witnessed in his everyday work made him eager to move to a more coordinating position. “The changes in technologies for programme making and distribution offer huge opportunities for public broadcasters and I have always felt we could make more use of synergies and link-up industry developments and standards work to the benefits of our Members. I hope my new role will allow me to contribute to that”, he said. | Peter MacAvock and Hans Hoffmann |
Part of the strategic plan
For EBU TECHNICAL director Lieven Vermaele the new positions are an essential step in implementing EBU TECHNICAL’s strategic plan. “Our Member interviews clearly showed how important they regard a better coordination of the work performed in our sphere of influence. Some of the comments indicated we could disseminate the results of our activities more, others showed there is gain to be had from tying industry partners closer together. I am confident the EBU TECHNICAL team will benefit from these two high performers in achieving these goals.”
