The EBU TECHNICAL group on HDTV distribution codecs (D/HDC) is evaluating the HDTV image quality performance of two new industry products. The evaluation is part of its two-day meeting at the German IRT (Institut für Rundfunk Technik) in Munich.
How many channels in a multiplex?
The HDTV evaluation is particularly important for EBU Members that have concrete plans for implementation of HDTV services. The work of the project gives guidance on the bit-rates required for satellite or terrestrial HDTV services, whilst still fulfilling benchmark HDTV quality requirements. It also guides on the number of channels in SD or HD Members can facilitate in their multiplexes.
