FIFA TV wins IBC Award and acknowledges Eurovision

The IBC Awards Ceremony recognizes the best in new technology, collaboration, creativity and innovation. Last night’s ceremony was no exception. The room buzzed with anticipation as participants watched the nominees display their most innovative solutions in content management, creation and delivery.

The EBU was well represented, with two of its Members taking the stage. The Best Conference Paper Award went to RAI (Radiotelevisione Italiana S.p.A.) for its research into DVB-T2 Lite, a variant of the well-known DVB standard that exploits digital terrestrial television broadcast networks for services to mobile receivers. Next, the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) received high commendations for its content delivery work, in particular, its Media Factory.

The lights then dimmed for the Judge’s Award. This year’s prize went to FIFA TV and its technology partners for the innovations in coverage of the World Cup.

Nicolas Ericson, director of FIFA TV, said “The global football audience is always hungry for more – for more cameras, for more detail, for more replays and for more analysis. In Brazil this year we worked together with our partners to provide more engaging multi-platform content and to develop the language to cover football in high resolution formats. It was an exhilarating team effort, and I am proud to recognize all those who contributed.”

Among the 14 partner organizations mentioned by FIFA TV, was Eurovision operated by EBU for their hard work and innovative solutions helping to deliver the first 4k/UHD-1 worldwide feed for the World Cup. Good work team!
