This week, EBU's N-IPM (IP Management) group held its final meeting at the BBC's new Centre House R&D headquarters in London. The finishing touches were being put to a pair of EBU Tech Documents that are of fundamental importance to broadcasters' management of the IP networks that are increasingly being used to carry all sorts of signals in all segments of the broadcast industry.
Network monitoring
The first of these documents (EBU Tech 3345) sets out the parameters that are necessary to measure the broadcast performance of an IP network together with the MIB (Management Information Base) that structures the presentation of these parameters in a common way, no matter what brands of equipment are used across the IP network. The second document (EBU Tech 3346) describes the EisStream management software that has been developed to provide end-to-end network monitoring with emphasis on the media (audio and video) performance of the IP network that is crucial to broadcasters.
Techs 3345 and 3346 will be available for download at the beginning of February.
