EBU TECHNICAL's first Strategic Programme meeting

EBU TECHNICAL's first Strategic Programme meeting on file-based HDTV production is currently being held at the premises of the IRT in Munich. Over 24 participants from the EBU’s Membership and high level industry representatives (from ARRI, AVID, GVG, Panasonic, Sony and Snell & Wilcox) are meeting to solve urgent interoperability problems the industry is struggling with.

A well defined roadmap and action plan

The Programme Group is chaired by Christoph Nufer (IRT) and Roberto Cecatto (RAI). The meeting started on Wednesday 24th March by defining an action plan for evaluating the next generation video codecs which EBU Members desperately need for high quality HDTV programme productions, including 1080p/50.

Next there was a session on MXF interoperability, which focused on subtitles, time codes and how to transfer finished programmes in MXF. A concrete action plan was put into place.

Today, the Group will concentrate on Acquisition Metadata, and the 3G studio interface.
