EBU recommends on hybrid broadcast - broadband services

Designed to promote interoperability across different EBU members’ territories and services, EBU's new recommendation on hybrid broadcast, broadband services seeks to bring together the big players amongst this new industry.

Increasingly popular

Hybrid broadcast broadband services are becoming more popular. There are a variety of initiatives in European countries aimed at exploiting the functionalities available on a new generation of consumer electronics devices incorporating broadband connections.

Hybrid broadband broadcast is a different environment to traditional IPTV in that the services are generally free-to-air, destined to be consumed on TV sets and set-top-boxes which combine a digital TV tuner and a broadband connection to a viewer’s home network.

Its not hard to imagine hybrid services evolving around, for example, EPGs.
