The EBU has published a technical document with HDTV Receiver Requirements. The publication provides guidance to EBU Members, but in particular also to consumer HDTV receiver manufacturers.
Agressive time schedule
The work was completed according to an aggressive time schedule, as EBU Members and the wider industry expressed their urgent needs for this type of specification. DIGITALEUROPE (formerly called EICTA) was included in the drafting process of the HDTV Receiver Requirements document.
Minimum requirements
In a nutshell the document represents the minimum HDTV receiver requirements of EBU Member broadcasting organisations. They have been discussed in detail with DIGITALEUROPE representatives. Examples of topics addressed in the document are:
| - Normative references - informative references - Video - Audio - Access Services, such as subtitling - SI and PSI - Content management - Connectors and interfacing - Usability - Software updates |
Interoperability
Manufacturers developing stand-alone receivers, such as set-top boxes (STB) or integrated receiver decoders (IRDs), or receivers with integrated digital televisions (iDTVs), are encouraged to comply with this set of requirements in order to allow for interoperability between EBU Members’ broadcasts and the receivers.
