Digital UK's Jonathan Thompson to keynote DigiTAG workshop

"DTT, the cornerstone of our digital future" is the title of a workshop to be held at the EBU later this month. The keynote speaker will be Digital UK chief executive officer Jonathan Thompson. The workshop is organized by DigiTAG, the Digital Terrestrial Television Action Group.

Digital UK plays a key role in the UK’s terrestrial TV service, at the heart of which is Freeview – the universally available, free‐to‐air service watched in three‐quarters of UK homes. The company provides operational support for the platform, including management of its electronic programme guide, and leads on developing DTT strategy, working with its broadcast partners and industry.

Announcing the keynote speaker, DigiTAG's interim president Simon Fell said "We are delighted that Jonathan will be speaking at this workshop and feel he can bring an interesting perspective into the development of DTT now and in the future. His knowledge of the development of DTT in the UK and also the insights gained from working within Digital UK are invaluable."

The upcoming workshop, taking place at the EBU on 12 December, will build on the success of last month's DigiTAG event in Istanbul. The DVB-T2 workshop attracted 160 delegates from around Europe, indicating the high level of interest in the implementation of DTT in Turkey. The event heard from local industry players about their plans to introduce DTT using the DVB-T2 standard. Speakers represented the regulatory body RTUK, EBU Member TRT, the network operator Anten AS and the commercial broadcaster associations TVYD and RATEM.
