For four weeks, starting next Monday Geneva will welcome more than 2,000 participants for the ITU World Radiocommunication Conference 2012 (WRC-12). The agenda includes a number of items of particular interest for the broadcasting community, with discussions scheduled on how radio frequency spectrum will be used in future. The world’s broadcasting unions will stress the key role that terrestrial broadcasting will continue to play in delivering services such as UHDTV and 3D-TV and the need to ensure that sufficient spectrum is available for this. The avoidance of interference to terrestrial broadcasts from other services is another key concern.

Engineers from the EBU have been working hard with their counterparts at the world’s other broadcasting unions in preparing their positions for WRC-12. The collection of technical documentation below has been compiled here to help conference participants learn more about the views of the broadcasters and the implications of some of the decisions to be made.
