The EBU Production Technology Seminar returns from 28 to 30 January in Geneva, with insights and inspiration to help public broadcasters keep producing high-quality, trustworthy and cost-efficient content. Offering 2.5 days of keynotes, use cases, discussions, demos and tutorials, key topics for PTS 2025 include infrastructure transformation, cloud, AI, data, and software-based production.

The opening morning will feature technology leaders from several EBU Members, including Germany's ARD, France Télévisions, Norway's NRK and Yle in Finland. They will provide insights on how technology strategy is evolving at public service media (PSM) companies. Also on the agenda on the first day are sessions on cloud strategies for PSM and case studies ranging from the production of the America's Cup to a VR-driven live editing tool and several more.

AI-assisted production

The second day of the event will be dedicated primarily to AI, opening with a set of keynotes looking industry-wide developments. Other sessions on Day 2 will look at AI-based tools that are already delivering benefits for EBU Members and ways of integrating AI into PSM workflows.

The day will end with the traditional PTS tutorials. This year's tutorial topics include synthetic media detection, content production with generative AI, audio production with dynamic metadata, and implemtation strategies for the new C2PA content authenticity standard.

R&D labs and Big Tech

The final day of the event opens with a keynote looking at the pioneering software-based production project at CBC in Toronto. This will be followed by an opportunity to hear what some of the biggest tech companies are planning, featuring Google. AWS, Microsoft and Sony. Following a session focused on new enablers for media production, the leaders of three major public broadcaster R&D labs – Rai, NHK and BBC – will step onto the podium to explore how their work continues to deliver value for PSM.
