Bringing together experts from all elements of the industry, the EBU TECHNICAL Broad Thinking ‘09 Conference examined the issues around Broadband TV.
Hybrid broadband-broadcast
Concentrating on the particular case of hybrid broadband-broadcast connected consumer electronics devices, the conference dealt with network topologies, multi-platform authoring, the various standardisation efforts and status reports from different European markets.
Comprehensive reports
Broad Thinking heard comprehensive reports from the UK with the CANVAS project, the French HD-FORUM project (sometimes referred to as H4TV) and the Spanish TDT.com online catch-up TV service. There were lively discussions aimed at a mutual understanding of this complex environment, the role of the various national initiatives and of course the importance of standardisation. Participants were also treated to demonstrations of a Samsung TV set incorporating Yahoo widgets.
