In front of a packed room at the recent EBU Production Technology Seminar 2026, ARD’s Malte Blumberg led a lively and engaging panel discussion involving representatives of five cloud providers, three from the US-based hyperscalers and two European players. A report on their discussion is the cover story for the new edition of tech-i magazine, now available for download. Jump to page 6 to find out how Steven Samwell (AWS), Anshul Kapoor (Google), David Tulloch (Microsoft), Jean-Baptiste Kempf (Scaleway), and Robin Hermann (STACKIT) got on when faced with thorny questions from the moderator.
In his editorial for this issue, EBU Technology & Innovation Director Antonio Arcidiacono sets out the strategic case for live broadcasting as the cornerstone of public service media's future. Arguing that PSM cannot survive by mimicking the logic of global platforms, he points to the dramatic reduction in live production costs – enabled by IP-based workflows, 5G standards, and cloud-based remote production – as an opportunity to reclaim direct audience relationships. "It is time to stop chasing platform algorithms and reclaim our relevance with the audience," he writes, "enabled by radically cheaper live production technologies and trusted, AI-powered dialogue."
