JT-DMF North American Kickoff marks progress on Dynamic Media Facilities (DMF)

The Joint Task Force on Dynamic Media Facilities (JT-DMF) held its North American kickoff meeting in New York, bringing together industry stakeholders to advance the development of next-generation media infrastructure. The event gathered users, vendors, and system integrators from across North America and Europe, reflecting growing international interest in dynamic, software-defined media facilities.

There was strong engagement throughout the meeting, with representatives from several leading media and technology organizations contributing to discussions. Paramount/CBS hosted the event, providing the venue for collaboration and knowledge exchange among attendees.

Prior to the North American kick-off meeting, working groups had already begun to address a number of key technical and operational areas central to the JT-DMF initiative. These include end-to-end synchronisation, compute resource management, flow connection, and broader business considerations. The discussions in New York focused on defining frameworks and best practices to support more flexible and scalable media production environments.

A joint taskforce to advance DMF

The JT-DMF is a joint initiative between the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Advanced Media Workflow Association (AMWA).

It aims to define and accelerate the technologies, architectures, and business models required for dynamic media facilities. These environments are designed to allow media resources to be instantiated at will, reconfigured on demand, and reused efficiently across different productions. As media workflows continue to evolve toward more software-based and distributed models, initiatives such as JT-DMF are expected to play a significant role in guiding the transition.

The kickoff meeting marked an important step in building momentum for the initiative in North America, complementing ongoing efforts in Europe. The collaborative approach was highlighted as a key factor in driving progress, with stakeholders encouraged to contribute to shaping emerging standards and practices.

The initiative and DMF will also be promoted at the NAB Show in Las Vegas this April. Interested parties are invited to visit AMWA at the IP Showcase stand (NAB W1355) to learn more about JT-DMF and explore opportunities for involvement.
