EBU Media Cybersecurity group meets in Bergen

The EBU Media Cyber Security Group convened on 24–25 September in Bergen, Norway, bringing together security leaders from across Europe to address pressing challenges in digital media security. The meeting, hosted by TV 2 Norway, gathered Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and experts from 18 EBU member organizations.

Representatives included BBC (UK), DR (Denmark), MDR and HR from ARD (Germany), France Médias Monde, NPO (Netherlands), NRK (Norway), ORF (Austria), RTÉ (Ireland), RTBF (Belgium), RTVE (Spain), RÚV (Iceland), SRG SSR (Switzerland), Sveriges Radio (Sweden), TV 2 (Norway), VRT (Belgium), Yle (Finland), ZDF (Germany). The breadth of participation reflected a strong commitment from Europe’s public service media community to strengthen collaboration on cybersecurity.

Discussions focused on a range of priority areas. Members exchanged views on risk management practices and measures to protect attack surfaces in an increasingly complex media environment. Participants also assessed the implications of emerging European Union regulations, including the Cyber Resilience Act and NIS2 directive, and how these will shape compliance requirements across the sector.

Cloud sovereignty and security were another central topic, with organizations sharing experiences on balancing multi-cloud strategies and portability with regulatory and security demands. The emphasis throughout was on practical cooperation and mutual support among broadcasters to enhance security and resilience.

Many thanks to TV 2 Norway for hosting the event!
