With the EBU Technical Assembly taking place in Vienna later this month, pride of place on the cover of the June 2023 issue of tech-i magazine goes to ORF's new Media Campus. The past 18 months have seen the completion of several projects underpinning the broadcaster's strategy towards integrating digital with linear, hybrid production and a new multimedia newsroom. ORF's Chief Technology Officer Harald Kräuter tells the story on pages 10–11.

One important agenda item in Vienna will be the presentation of the EBU Technology & Innovation Award 2023. The 23 nominated projects are listed on pages 6–7.

Generative AI

Antonio Arcidiacono tackles the topic of generative AI in his editorial, describing how it could open a new frontier in the dialogue between media organizations and audiences. Pointing out that the output of generative AI tools like ChatGPT could start to regress if the systems do not have appropriate filtering criteria for the information they are fed. He sees a role for EBU Members:

One solution to this could leverage the multiplicity of public service media, and their role as trusted third parties, to inject new constructive ideas and reject negative divergence; to expose the diversity of points of view from various countries and cultures; and to extract valuable contributions from the feedback of audiences in a sort of AI-aided media literacy exercise that could itself be facilitated by AI.
