Registrations for the annual EBU Digital Radio Summit during the Digital Radio Week are going fast.

Started in 2008, the Digital Radio Summit has become the meeting point for broadcasters, operators, industry and administrations active or interested in the topic of digital radio.

Every once in a while, we hear people say that there is not much new in the field of digital radio in Europe, but there are many exciting opportunities for the future as we will see during our “Have your say” sessions this year.  Often, participants tell us that “this is a unique opportunity to meet everyone and exchange."

The fact is that digital radio is far from static in Europe. The rollout for digital radio is already underway in many well-known digital countries such as the United Kingdom, Norway, Switzerland, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, etc. with some of them having already plan in action for FM switchover. And, new entrants are joining the effort such as: Poland and Sweden. In fact, we have just heard from the CSA in France that digital radio is also about to move there.

On the technology side, digital means more than DAB+. Hybrid radio is now part of the story and comes with attractive applications and interactivity.

On the receiver side, main efforts concentrate on car integration and mobile phones - two means of listening while on the move which represent a large part of radio listening in Europe.

So if you are interested by all of this, you shouldn't miss this year’s EBU Digital Radio Summit. There are many other important events happening during the week, like the RadioDNS General Assembly, Radiohack Developer & Innovation Workshop and the ITU World Radio Day. So our advice, don’t wait too long as capacity is limited.
