As broadcasters continue to envisage their transformation to IT-based infrastructures for their new production facilities, many interesting and important questions have been raised.
An important one to highlight is how will all networked media devices and software components (including cameras, vision mixers, video servers, audio codecs, intercom panels etc.) be discovered, monitored, configured and controlled from an overarching management system?
The good news is that there are a number of technologies and standards available to help with such a question. In particular, the following may be of interest to you: SMPTE 2071, Ember +, the BBC IP Studio Approach, OCA/AES210 and the 'good old' SNMP.
But the real question becomes: How can we achieve interoperability with this diversity? What are the benefits and inconveniences of the different approaches? Does one size fits all, can we find one universal solution or do we need different ones for different applications? And finally, what will the transition from devices to platforms change?
Our upcoming micro-workshop, organized by the EBU Future Networked Systems Group (FNS), is an opportunity for experts to discuss these important, but sometimes difficult, questions with their peers from the EBU Technology & Innovation community.
The event will take place on 03 February 2015 (the day before our usual FNS meeting) at the VRT in Brussels. The event is for EBU Members with guest industry experts on the topic. Please note, there are limited seats available. Please contact [email protected] to indicate your interest to participate.
