Mobile Technologies and Standards

Building PSM competence in 4G, 5G, and future mobile network standards.

Scope

Mobile networks are becoming increasingly important for the distribution of audiovisual media services. The rapid development of mobile technologies is driven by ever-growing demand for network capacity, the uptake of innovative services including audiovisual media, and the expanding capabilities of mobile devices. It is essential for mobile networks to accommodate current and future public service media needs — in particular, large-scale distribution of audiovisual services in a sustainable and cost-efficient way. Our group builds technical competence within the EBU community in the domain of current and future mobile technologies, including 4G/LTE, 5G, and the emerging standards that will follow.

Objectives

We contribute to ongoing standardisation work in the domain of mobile technologies on behalf of EBU Members, ensuring that public service media requirements are reflected in the standards being developed. We monitor and analyse developments in mobile network architecture that affect media distribution, and we share practical guidance to help Members navigate investment and deployment decisions. Participation is limited to EBU Members.
