GENERAL INFORMATION

Weather

Barcelona has a warm, Mediterranean climate. In June, temperatures usually range from about 20°C to 27°C, with plenty of sunshine and very little rain.

Currency

The Euro is the official currency.

ATMs can be recognized by signs such as “ATM” or “Cashpoint,” and in Spain they are often labeled “Cajero automático.” You will find ATMs at the airport terminals.

There are plenty of ATMs throughout the city, located in supermarkets, near banks, inside shopping areas, and on the streets. Most machines offer instructions in English.

Visa, Mastercard (Cirrus and Maestro), and American Express are widely accepted across Barcelona. To find the nearest compatible ATM, you can use your card provider’s ATM locator.

Be aware that most ATMs in Spain require a 4-digit PIN for withdrawals.

Local Custom

In Spain, tipping around 5–10% of the bill is appreciated for good service in restaurants, bars, and cafés, although it is not always expected. Small tips are also welcomed in hotels and serviced apartments.

Electric sockets

In Spain, type F (and sometimes type C) plugs and sockets are used. The mains voltage is 230 V at a frequency of 50 Hz.

Emergency numbers

112 (throughout Europe – operator will put you through to relevant service)
