Each summer, from 1962 to 1973, EBU Working Party B carried out measurements devoted to the propagation of VHF signals via the sporadic-E layer, with the object of acquiring knowledge of this phenomenon that could be put to practical use. For instance, this propagation can occasionally cause serious interference to television reception in Band I.

The final report of the group is presented in two separate volumes.

Volume 1 describes the measurements, their analysis and the results obtained. These have enabled propagation curves to be drawn for Europe and a method of field-strength prediction to be devised. This method could be used in planning of future VHF broadcasting services in Europe.

Volume 2 contains the complete list of all the measured values in numerical and graphical representations so that they may possibly be used in other types of investigation.
