The EBU's Future Networks and Storage (FNS) group will experiment with a new initiative in 2014: a series of one-day µWorkshops - or Micro-Workshops. The first, to be hosted at IRT, Munich on 21 January, will focus on networked remote production. The workshops are open to anyone that joins the FNS group.

Hot topic

The growing use of data networks as contribution links has opened up a range of exciting new possibilities for broadcasters, enabling workflows that are distributed and remote.

At January's µWorkshop participants will be able to share and discuss early experiences with these technologies and learn from expert presentations. It will also provide valuable input for the FNS group to assess how best to meet Members' needs in this area in future.

Value for Members

It has become increasingly difficult for EBU Members to participate actively in the Strategic Programmes and Project Groups established by the Technical Committee. Shrinking travel budgets and pressure on other resources can make it difficult for the experts, whose contributions are so important, to justify committing the time required. The FNS group hopes that holding these µWorkshops adjacent to meetings will add significant value for those participating.

Places at January's µWorkshop are limited - and only EBU Members that join SP-FNS may attend. To join and attend the workshop, simply login and visit the group homepage. You can join the group there - if not already a participant - and sign up for the µWorkshop via the workspace. (The deadline to register for the µWorkshop is Friday 10 January.)
