The annual NAB tradeshow in Las Vegas (9–12 April 2018) is a fixture on the calendar of the international broadcast industry. Every year, EBU experts travel to NAB to present at the associated conference, to meet with sister unions, standards organizations, vendors and representatives of American broadcasters, to learn about technology trends on the other side of the atlantic and to showcase technologies developed within the European public service sector. The EBU is also hosting a number of meetings and meet-ups for PSM representatives and manufacturers at NAB 2018.
BISS-CA
The EBU's new Conditional Access mode for live content streams, BISS-CA, a royalty-free solution to grant and revoke entitlements in-stream and in real-time, will be on show at the booths of technology vendors and co-developers Ateme (booth SU3710, South Upper Hall) and Nevion (booth SU5510, South Upper Hall). BISS-CA, described in EBU Tech 3292s1, expands support beyond B2B contribution over satellite to any IP network connection and software-based systems.
Flow multi-CDN
Broadcasters interested in learning more about multi-CDN technology and its benefits in terms of QoS and cost will be able to meet at NAB with the engineers behind the Flow Multi-CDN solution, which is now moving beyond the pilot phase. (To arrange a meeting please contact ritchie@eurovision.net.)
Live IP Software Toolkit
Also on show at NAB is the EBU Live IP Software Toolkit (LIST), which introduces fundamental measurement and testing functions for IP-based live production facilities. LIST is demonstrated as part of the IP Showcase, a collaborative project of EBU, AES, AIMS, AMWA, IABM, SMPTE and VSF, with the aim to drive interoperability of IP production components based on open standards. The project leverages the new ST 2110 standard and more than 60 manufacturers are demonstrating their products as part of the IP Showcase (Central Hall C12634). EBU Live & IP Architect Willem Vermost and EBU IP Media Architect Ievgen Kostiukevych, who both presented technical papers at this year's NAB conference, are also presenting at the IP Showcase theatre.
