One of the topics discussed at this event, was the interpretation of the word 'open'. Different people/organisations/companies have different perceptions of what 'open' actually means. This especially applies to 'Open Standards'. Fortunately the speakers seemed to agree that Open Source is about the rights to: use, study, change, distribute the software as you desire.
The main conclusion for media professionals was that there is not much high quality open source video software available, that there are quite some interesting audio solutions though, and many text-related packages.
It will be interesting to see how the landscape has evolved in a few years time from now.
