Abstract

GEM-based hybrid broadcast systems

The presentation gives an overview of the new Java-based GEM 1.3 specification, which was recently extended with a new profile for OTT services. GEM is deployed in broadcast and broadband networks as well as in every Blu-ray player on the planet.

The new OTT profile closes the gaps for hybrid broadcast/broadband systems and enables a wide variety of new OTT and HBB services. These hybrid services can range from red-button applications to HD teletext replacements and full interactive services, which benefit from the combination of GEM profiles.
