1. WHY IS THIS NOTICE IMPORTANT TO YOU?

This Privacy Notice relating to the protection of personal data is designed to inform you about the personal data relating to you processed by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), (hereinafter, "we, our", as the case may be), an association duly established under Swiss law, located at L'Ancienne-Route 17A, 1218 Grand-Saconnex (Geneva), Switzerland and registered with the Commercial Registry in Geneva under number IDE CHE 107.741.078.

Your privacy is important to us. We aim for full transparency on how we collect, use, and share your personal information in accordance with applicable data protection laws including the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (hereinafter, the "GDPR").

Through this Privacy Notice, as data controller we would like to inform you about what personal data we may process about you when you access and use our tech-i App, how we collect it, on which legal basis, for what purposes we use it, and with whom we may share it. We also explain your privacy rights and how you can exercise them.

The aim of this App is to enable you to access EBU Technology & Innovation content anywhere, anytime.

2. WHAT KIND OF PERSONAL DATA DO WE COLLECT ABOUT YOU AND HOW?

• Account identification data that you submit to us when you create an EBU account (e.g. name, phone number, company, position, postal address, email address)

• Authentication login data (via EBU SSO) that you submit to us in order to authenticate you, see above

3. FOR WHAT PURPOSES DO WE USE YOUR PERSONAL DATA AND ON WHICH LEGAL BASIS?

Your Personal Data will be used exclusively and only to the extent necessary for the performance of a contract to which you are a party, to:

• protect restricted content, as a lot of the content is for EBU Members only.

• provide aggregated statistics to assess the value of EBU services.

Only anonymized data (not linked to your personal profile) will be used to:

• gather content consumption statistics, e.g. which news was opened or the videos played.

• gather search terms, e.g. which topics were searched for in events.

• improve the App, e.g. provide faster access to popular content.  

4. WHO HAS ACCESS TO YOUR PERSONAL DATA?

We do not share your data with any third parties outside the EBU. We host your data in the EU and have signed a contract with Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL. In case we need to share your data with third parties (i.e. compulsory by law or by order of an administration or judicial authority), you will be notified to whom your personal data has been shared with.

5. HOW DO WE PROTECT YOUR PERSONAL DATA?

5.1. Storage duration

We process and store your personal data for as long as it is necessary for the processing of the purposes described above or for the fulfilment of our contractual and legal obligations. Your personal data will be securely destroyed when no longer required.

5.2. Security of your data

We have implemented technical and organizational measures in accordance with standard industry practices to ensure an appropriate level of security of the Personal Data processed via our application.

5.3. Automated decision making and profiling

No automated decision-making or profiling of you will be performed as part of the personal data processing described in this Privacy Notice.

6. YOU CAN CONTACT US

6.1 What are your rights?

Under data protection law, you have certain rights with respect to your personal data we need to make you aware of. Consequently, we are at your disposal to help you to benefit from these rights. Except as limited by applicable law and subject to applicability, the following rights are granted to individuals:

Right of access: the right to be informed about and to obtain access to the personal data processed about you.

Right to rectification: the right to obtain that we rectify or update your personal data when they are inaccurate or incomplete.

Right to erasure: the right to obtain that we delete your personal data.

Right to restriction of processing: the right to obtain that we limit the processing of all or part of your personal data.

Right to object: the right to object at any time to the processing of your personal data for reasons relating to your situation; the right to object at any time to the processing of your personal data for direct marketing purposes.

Right to data portability: the right to receive a copy of your personal data in electronic format and the right to transmit such personal data for use by a third-party service; and

Right to object to automated decision making: the right not to be subject to a decision based exclusively on automated processing, including profiling, producing legal effects concerning you or significantly affecting you in a similar way.

These rights may be limited, for example, if the execution of your request reveals personal data of another person, or if you ask us to delete information that we are required to retain by law or because of compelling legitimate interests.

Once we have asked for your consent, you may withdraw it at any time without justification. If you request to withdraw your consent, this will not affect the lawfulness of the processing based on consent before its withdrawal.

At any time, you may exercise your rights by fulfilling a specific request form accessible on our dedicated EBU Data Subject Rights online platform.

Finally, as a data subject, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority (in the country of your usual residence, or your place of work, or the place of the data breach) if you consider that the processing of your personal data violates the applicable legislation on the protection of personal data.

6.3 Effective date and changes

This Privacy Notice is in effect since 18 October 2023. We reserve the right, at our complete discretion, to change, modify, add, or remove portions of this Privacy Notice at any time.
