Eric Lofgren (NRK) presents an engaging narrative about innovation at NRK and his experience using the Apple Vision Pro—the crux of a project aimed at testing new broadcasting methods. As Head of Innovation, Lofgren describes pioneering a "quick and agile" four-person team's approach within NRK's production department to rethink traditional TV production methods.
The endeavor includes a unique, four-hour live broadcast using Vision Pro headsets as monitors. This unconventional setup explored reducing the fixed setup of conventional control rooms and offered new ways to personalize broadcasting experiences. By leveraging spatial computing and advanced user interfaces, NRK’s team sought to challenge and revolutionize the existing norms of content production.
Despite limitations like latency issues and hardware dependencies, the project opened dialogue around the future of broadcast production, focussing on adaptability, culture change, and the potential of immersive technology.
