High Dynamic Range (HDR) production is increasingly the norm. In this presentation Simon Thompson (BBC R&D, chair EBU Video Systems group) provides an update on recent EBU work in the video domain, including sharing HDR production experiences and testing the latest equipment.
In media production, legacy technology can have a long-term impact, which is illustrated by the fact that interlacing has reappeared as a prime topic. Paradoxically, that 'ancient' technology that was once meant to optimize quality when technical solutions were strongly constrained, now is causing quality concerns when combined with the latest technology. As Simon reported, a new test pattern may soon help address this issue.
